Virtual FCCS Course
Management principles for the first 24 hours of critical care.
16 hours of Cat 1 CME and Certification of 
Completion 
Two-day course: Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th  8am-5pm PST/ 10am–7pm CST each day

Course Purpose
• To better prepare the non-intensivist for the first 24 hours of management of the critically ill patient until transfer or appropriate critical care consultation can be arranged.
• To assist the non-intensivist in dealing with sudden deterioration of the critically ill patient.
• To prepare house staff for ICU coverage.
• To prepare critical care practitioners to deal with acute deterioration in the critically ill patient.

Course Objectives
• Prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill patient
• Identify and respond to significant changes in the unstable patient
• Recognize and initiate management of acute life-threatening conditions

Speaker
Jon Van Horn, PA-C, MPAS graduated from the US Army Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) in 2002. Since then he has worked in the General, Vascular, Pediatrics, and CardioThoracic surgical specialties. For the last 15 years he was worked in Trauma/Critical Care at a Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and Randall Children’s Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center located in Portland, Oregon. He has deployed with the US Army to Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and local flooding in Oregon. His passion is teaching, and has been conducting the FCCS program for AASPA since 2013. He has been married to his wife for 24 years, and has 3 adult sons.
