Join us for the next SoCal Science Writing event! It's our latest workshop: Contracts & Conflicts of Interest.
Part I: Learn the basics of contracts for freelance writers from local journalist Linda Marsa, then quiz expert publishing and IP attorney Jonathan Kirsch on everything contracts. Kirsch is the author of thirteen books including two on publishing law, a former book columnist for the L.A. Times, the current book editor of the Jewish Journal, and an adjunct faculty member at NYU's Professional Publishing Institute.
Part II: Laura DeFrancesco is your guide to navigating financial and non-financial conflicts of interest at science publications. You'll leave with a better sense of which assignments to take and which to decline. Laura has been an editor at Nature Biotechnology, a journal broadly focused on the intersection of technology and society, since 2003.
