This presentation will focus on utilizing motivational interviewing to enhance student motivation. The strategies discussed in the presentation will provide school counselors with tools to reduce student ambivalence resulting in greater opportunities for personal/social, career and academic success. Furthermore, implementing this style of counseling can result in less incidences of counselor burnout.
Program Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to reflect on current assessments of success for students
2. Participants will be able to learn strategies for enhancing student motivation and engagement
3. Participants will be able to incorporate their unique counseling style and theoretical orientation into this evidence-based practice
