Emotion drives behavior – stories frame emotion and create meaning. The stories we share in common across our society create a sort of collective unconscious and give clients powerful ways to see things differently and consider possibilities. We know that accumulated experiences are a major resource for master therapists, and culture tales, even from Rankin/Bass, give you a powerful way to bring a freshness to your counseling, and to stimulate your client’s creativity and change thinking.
Program Objectives - At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:
1) Describe how shared stories create meaning.
2) Use shared stories with clients to create change talk.
3) Engage change as a process of emotional meaning, rather than cognitive learning.
