Presenter: Dr. Justin Mueller (PhD, LMFT), Clinical Coordinator of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at LaGrange College

This presentation provides strategies and techniques for empowering black males in therapy.  This presentation includes a discussion of the current plight of black male children, teens, and adults. Also, this presentation will highlight historical challenges facing black males. This presentation will conclude with counseling interventions and approaches to best support black males in counseling.

Program Objectives - Participants will be able to:
Obj A - Understand the challenges facing black males, historically and currently
Obj B - Identify strategies and techniques for empowering black males
Obj C - Utilize clinical interventions and approaches with this population

About the Presenter:
Dr. Justin C. Muller is as an assistant professor at LaGrange College (GA) in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. Dr. Muller serves as the program's Clinical Coordinator where he helps his graduate students find practicum and internship clinical sites.  Dr. Muller is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (GA).  Dr. Muller graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2016 with his doctorate degree in counselor education and supervision. He received his master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Valdosta State University in 2013. Dr. Muller’s research interests include systemic approaches to providing therapeutic services to African American at-risk youths, facilitating racial dialogues and discussions, and the impact of doctoral study on doctoral student relationships. When he is not working, Dr. Muller enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Dr. Muller is a major sports fan and follows the NBA, NFL, and each of the University of South Carolina athletic teams closely. Dr. Muller’s favorite musical artist is Lil Wayne. Dr. Muller is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
