Colorado leaders are increasingly aware of the problems of human trafficking and were proactive in enacting enabling legislation in 2010, but undertook a significant reform of its human trafficking laws in 2014 as it pertains to human trafficking for involuntary servitude and human trafficking for sexual servitude. Since the 2014 reforms – which included establishing a statewide Human Trafficking Council designed to bring together leadership from across the spectrum of state, regional, and local entities and community-based organizations – the legislature has undertaken additional modifications of the laws, most notably during the 2017 legislative session. This live training program will provide participants an overview and background of the law changes passed in 2014 and the recent legislation that is expected to be enacted during this year’s legislative session. Issues such as: sentencing; sex tourism; sex offender registration; worker exploitation and labor trafficking; and real-world case examples of the human trafficking laws applied in Colorado will be discussed by senior leaders and state officials responsible for human trafficking reform and implementation in the past 3 years.
