I will be registering as:
The Future of Democracy in PA and the U.S. - Does It Have One?
The club will conclude its season of Wednesday evening programs at 5 p.m., Wed., May 5, with a multi-pronged look at a topic much in the news and on many minds: the struggle to preserve and fix American democracy. We have an impressive array of guest speakers who can speak to different reform and election protection efforts at the national, state and local levels. We'll use the format of opening lightning-round talks, followed by three 20-minute breakouts, that we used for the Future of Work and Future of the Arts programs this year. So you'll hear briefly from all the speakers and in-depth from three.
Our powerhouse lineup includes:
- David Daley of FairVote, author of the book on gerrymandering (the title of which, alas, can't be uttered in polite company) and a more recent look at the successes of grassroots reformers, called Unrigged.
- Adam Ambrogi, director of the Elections and Voting Program at the Democracy Fund.
- Sam Wang, founder of the Princeton Election Consortium and Representable.org
- Khalif Ali, the new head of Common Cause Pennsylvania
- Justin Villere, head of DrawtheLinesPA, a leading anti-gerrymandering group
- Jen Devor, Philadelphia political reformer, cofounder of the new Better Civics nonprofit
