How do you define justice?  Is there a universal definition of justice?  Should justice be set and maintained by moral beliefs?  The concept of justice is complex and the beliefs surrounding it varies based on one's profession, religious beliefs, status, geographic region, and periods of time.  News stories abound about vigilante justice where someone who has been wronged takes matters into their own hands and assaults or kills someone or someone who strikes out at police in acts of rage.  In some regions in the world women and girls are not allowed to do many things as their male counterparts based on Sharia Laws.  In the United States prior to the Civil Rights movement millions of African Americans lived under Black Codes which were laws that dictated the actions of African Americans and reduced them to a status similar to that of a slave.  These are just a few examples of what some determine justice to be and how it is carried out.

There are many organizations, bar assoications, and legal professionals who are spearheading projects to make the access to justice more attainable for all demographic groups in the United States and abroad.  Some of the ways in which this is done is by utilizing technology to lower the costs of legal services.  Other ways in which this has been accomplished is by licensing non-attorney's to provide services to segments of society who would be left to  navigate the complex legal system without any assistance.

Justice is a complex issue that requires more than a one size fits all approach but a multifaceted evaluation of what justice is and the ways in which access to it may be obtained by all segments of society.  This year's conference will explore justice from these differing perspectives and viewpoints with speakers who are tackling this issue from different angles including technology initiatives, government initiatives, and pro bono services.
