About Our Speaker:
Carol Wahle Smith is a Senior Professor of Business at the College of Central Florida (CF). She is the Program Manager of the Paralegal Studies Program and teaches legal-related courses on both the associate degree and bachelor's degree levels. In addition to her academic duties, Carol serves as CF’s Equity Investigator. Additionally, Carol served as CF's Equity Officer for 20 years and has the distinction of being CF's first in-house counsel during the early 2000s. While she was acting counsel for CF, Carol drafted and implemented many of CF's policies and procedures being used today. Her contributions included policies and procedures focusing on employment, including compliance with the ADA, Title VII, and Title IX. She continues to aid CF in amending policies and procedures to remain complaint with federal and state laws. She has presented numerous trainings, both on-campus and off, on compliance with Federal and State Non-discrimination/harassment laws as well as seminars on Effective Business Communication. Prior to coming to CF, Carol practiced law in the Ocala/Gainesville area. She also served as a Congressional Aide to former Congressman Buddy MacKay. Carol holds a Bachelor's in English and a minor in Business from Florida State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida.

This presentation focuses on an HR professional's role in safeguarding an organization's ethical environment. It will explore how HR professionals are faced with situations that involve ethics, law, or both, and how an HR professional's decision-making can adhere to the organization's core values and protect the ethical environment.
