Body Language
Professor Mehrabian author of “Silent Messages” states the now famous rule that communication is only 7 percent verbal and 93 percent non-verbal. The nonverbal component was made up of body language (55 percent) and tone of voice (38 percent). Many believe 60% to 90% of communication is nonverbal.
After this session, attendees will be able to:
Define body language concepts
Define nonverbal communication and explain its metacommunicative nature
Define and distinguish the following kinds of nonverbal messages: Kinesics, paralanguage, proxemics, haptics, artefactual communication, appearance, olfactics and chronemics.
Explain messages given with body language.
Compare and contrast the nonverbal communication styles of men and women.
Discuss cultural differences in body language.
The use of understanding body language in interviewing.
The use of understanding body language in Employee Relation issues and investigations.
 
About Our Speaker
Mel was born and raised in the Washington DC area. He attended College in Philadelphia and has degrees in Human Resources and Organizational Development. Mel has been a Human Resources professional for over 20 years. He has consulted for companies such as Starbucks, Nextel, Kodak and Netflix. He is featured in over 300 of the Adams Job bank series books. He has written two books “The Electronic Job Search 2000 and “The Electronic Job Search 2001”. Rappleyea hosted the syndicated radio show “Jobline” and continues to be a regular guest on The Family Empowerment Radio show.  Mel has lent his talents as a interviewer and interrogator to the FBI, CIA, Blackwater, DOD, Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been a featured speaker at Conventions, Universities and Churches across the globe. Mel continues to be a prolific writer on LinkedIn with over 75,000 followers. He is a third degree blackbelt in Wing Chun and sometime moonlights as a bodyguard for Conor McGregor, Pink, Shinedown, KISS and Taylor Swift. He lives in Mount Dora.
