Featured Speaker:

Ken Smithgall

Topic:
Surviving the Active Assailant

This is an awareness level presentation that will look at the phenomenon of the “Active Shooter” in the United States. We will discuss the differences between active shooters, homicides, and mass killings. We will look at business requirements under the Duty of Care and Workplace Violence and review the FBI/DOJ statistics on Active Shooters. We will also discuss situational awareness, physical and biological reactions to stress and how to recognize and counter these reactions. We will discuss the Department of Homeland Security’s Run, Hide, Fight as a response methodology for an active assailant event and the Stop the Bleed program for controlling traumatic bleeding.
