OCASG is pleased to kick off the 2019 Speaker Series with a presentation by Dr. Alex Gantman, noted expert in psychosocial functioning of adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many of our parents have raised concerns about how their ASD teens and adults are contributing to tensions in the home. The presentation explores common sources of conflicts, reasons for those behaviors, and potential coping strategies. During this session, Dr. Gantman will explore:
- Oppositional behaviors
- Isolation
- Dysfunctional family relationships
About the Speaker
Dr. Alexander Gantman has unique clinical training in evidence-based treatments and expertise in the domain of psychosocial functioning of adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety and Mood Disorders. Dr. Gantman received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from PGSP-Stanford University Consortium. He received a highly prestigious Ruth L. Kirchstein Institutional (T32) National Research Service Award from the National Institute for Mental Health. At UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience, he was a Principal Investigator on the adaptation and development of the PEERS Program, an evidence-based, parentassisted, social skills group intervention for adolescents, to address the unique needs of college age young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders. His research has been published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, and his work has been presented at professional conferences including the International Meeting for Autism Research.The meeting starts at 7:00pm, and is free to individuals and families dealing with Asperger's, High Functioning Autism, and PDD-NOS, but reservations are requested.
