We are excited to host a virtual discussion with His Excellency Vice Skračić, Ambassador of Croatia to Canada! 

The discussion will focus on the 15th anniversary of Croatia’s accession to NATO and the rule of the Alliance in a shifting geopolitical setting.

Ambassador Skračić formerly held several positions in the multilateral and bilateral spheres. Prior to beginning his posting as Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Canada in 2019, H.E. held the position of Assistant-Minister for Political Affairs & Political Director, in charge of bilateral relations with non-European States and EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. He also previously served at the Croatian Embassy in Washington DC and at the Croatian Parliament Missions to the UN in both New York and Geneva (political and disarmament affairs). Prior to this assignment, Ambassador Skračić was the Director for Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, Russia and the Eastern Partnership and prior and prior to that the Head of Division for CSDP and Peacekeeping at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. 

Between January 2010 and February 2013, Ambassador Skračić held the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Croatia in Washington DC. During this time, between June 2011 and May 2012, he was also Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy and served as the political coordinator and acting Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Croatia to the United Nations in New York, during Croatia’s two-year mandate in the United Nations Security Council. 

During his long Foreign Service career, Ambassador Skračić also held a number of functional positions within the UN system, including Vice-President of the Fourth Meeting of States Parties to the Ottawa Convention on Anti-Personnel Mines in 2002 and Vice-Chairman of the UN Disarmament Commission in 1999. 

Ambassador Skračić graduated with a degree in political science and sociology from the University of New England in 1989, and did post-graduate work in international relations at the University of Zagreb in 1994.
