Course Overview
This is a First Receiver Decontamination Operations - Train the Trainer course, being offered specifically for the BJC Healthcare System. This course requires that all instructor candidates agree to support the BJC Systemwide Decontamination Operations program. Instructors are expected to conduct courses at their facility, as well as assisting other faciltiies with their scheduled decon courses. All instructors are expected to support at least TWO decon courses a year outside their home facilities courses.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires hospitals to provide First Responder Operations Level Decontamination Training to personnel who are expected to decontaminate victims or handle them before they are thoroughly decontaminated. This includes staff designated to provide treatment, triage, decontamination, and other related services as well as personnel who may reasonably be expected to come in contact with those individuals arriving at the hospital.
This comprehensive 24-hour Operations Level Decontamination Train the Trainer program prepares instructor candidates to facilitate the HOPE Coalition 1st Receiver Decontamination Operations Course - in accordance with program guidelines and OSHA requirements.

What type of equipment do I need to bring?
Non-Memorial Hospital Belleville/Shiloh staff must bring the following items:
Proof of medical clearance from your organization. Either a letter from the Occupational Health department manager/director, or a copy of your medical clearance questionnaire signed by a physician.
Note taking material (pad, pen, etc.)
Are there any pre-requisites prior to attending?
Yes, you must complete the following (free): 4 hour - Hazardous Materials Awareness Online or equivalent
IS-100.HCB: IS-100.c - Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)
IS-700.a - National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
Medical clearance?
You must be medically cleared from your organization's respiratory protection program manager to function in a hazardous atmosphere while wearing a respirator. Please contact your organization's occupational health department for specifics.
Expecting mothers ... Can I attend if I'm pregnant?
No. For the general safety and well-being of both mom and the child, expecting mothers are not authorized to participate in the training.
Will there be food served?
Yes, BJC will be providing a catered lunch on Thursday and Friday. Monday will be up to the student,there is a cafeteria on site.
Directions to the Classroom
Classroom will be held in the Emergency Management departmental conference room located in Medical Office Building One, Suite A220 on the second floor. Instructor candidates should park in the white colored parking spots outside of medical office building one.
