Mr. Sawyer entered DIA in July 2001 and was assigned as the U.S. Central Command Team Chief, Mobility and Sustainability Division, Military Infrastructure Office (MIO), DI. On September 11, 2001, he was tasked to serve as Team Chief for the Operational Support Group Targeting and Battle Damage Assessment Cell in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He served in multiple positions of increasing responsibility within MIO to include Chief, Mobility and Sustainability Division and Chief, Information Operations Fusion Support Division, culminating with his assignment as Deputy Office Chief. Mr. Sawyer's senior assignments include; Principal Deputy Director for Analysis (PDDI); first Director of the Middle East/Africa Regional Center (MARC); Chief, Middle East North Africa Office (MNA); Chief, Defense Resources and Infrastructure Office (DRI); and, Senior Expert for Enterprise Management. His final assignment was Chief of Staff for the Defense Intelligence Agency. As DIA's third ranking officer, he exercised broad responsibilities to ensure the Agency's continued excellence while simultaneously developing plans, process improvements, and strategies to prepare the Agency for future relevance. Mr. Sawyer is currently transitioning.
