Laura Searcy MN, APRN, PPCNP-BC, FAANPPediatric Nurse Practitioner, Marietta Neonatology
Chair of the Board, Cobb Community Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse
2017-2018 President, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners Parents, any use of products containing nicotine by youth is unsafe. Nicotine is highly addictive, especially during teen years when the developing brain is very vulnerable.
Research indicates the secondary reinforcing effect of nicotine use in teens can lead not only to other tobacco product use including combustible cigarettes but also to other substance misuse, as well as reducing their ability to take pleasure from other activities in the absence of nicotine.
This presentation will examine the newest evidence and current trends in youth nicotine use. Laura will also tell us what we can do if we suspect our teen is using nicotine products (e.g. JUUL).
This same presentation will be made the following day to ninth and tenth grade students at DHS.
