Designing for the Deaf Community

Join us in learning about the deaf and hard of hearing culture in SW Washington and the need for a new center to support and celebrate this community.

Meet Terese Rognmo, Executive Director of the Washington Advocates of Deaf & Hard of Hearing (WADHH) deaf center, headquartered in Vancouver, WA.  wadhh.org

Terese will share her experience as a professional deaf woman championing her vision to expand services to the deaf and hard of hearing community through the design of a new deaf center. The new building will be designed for the specific needs of the adult deaf and hard of hearing community.

The project program includes a new 17,000 SF building with administrative and leased service provider offices, job training coffee bar and lounge, life skills classroom, sound studio for filming announcements in sign language, and a 2000 SF community event center with adjacent exterior plaza.

Under Terese’s leadership the Vancouver center has taken on administrative leadership for three additional centers located in Yakima, Tri-Cities and Spokane.

Amy Noe, Principal at Amy Noe Interior Design, and CREW member, is the designer and facilitator for the project. She is leading the design committee meetings and guiding the design process to establish design guidelines, project goals and funding strategies. Amy has over twenty years’ experience leading the design on large complex public projects with limited funding and award-winning outcomes. She is passionate about the deaf community through her relationship with her deaf adult niece, Dehne’.

We look forward to sharing this project with you.
