Join our team as we idle way a couple very pleasant hours monitoring the life in Pope's Head Creek.
Almost no effort is required, and you can drive right up to the streamside if the ground is dry. We are always hoping to find people who may want to do this with us a couple times a year, but others are welcome as well. Come try it out!

Drive under the railroad bridge, cross the stream, and look in the field to your right where you should see us set up. You can park by the road, but if it is dry enough and your car is high enough, you can drive across the field.
Stream monitoring consists of stirring up the stream bottom and catching the silt and debris in a net. That material includes the tiny larval forms of insects and other creatures. We pick them off the net and sort them according to type. The ratio of one type to another tells us how healthy the stream is (and has been for the life of those animals), since some are more tolerant of abnormally high temperatures and pollution than others.
