The Bibliographical Society of America welcomes new members and old friends to an evening of bookish camaraderie at the Center for Jewish History, sponsored by the American Jewish Historical Society.
Wednesday, January 22, 2020, 6-8pm

Come meet your fellow BSA members, enjoy tours of AJHS collections and exhibits, and learn more the BSA – how we work and what we do. Reception follows.

Open to BSA members and anyone interested in the Society, the AJHS, or the Center for Jewish History's exhibitions and collections.
The Center for Jewish History is a 5 partner consortium of organizations that together form the largest collection of modern Jewish historical materials in the United States. This tour will highlight our digital, conservation, and archival processing labs, and will also include a tour of the AJHS stacks.
  • The Emma Lazarus Project is an NEH funded exhibit and online curriculum for high school students situates the genesis of the "New Colossus" poem in a brownstone sitting room, where the author, Emma Lazarus, immersed herself in the debates and literature of the day.
  • Rise of the Yiddish Machines: The Typewriter and Yiddish Literature explores the transition from manuscript to print among Yiddish writers, displaying rare, vintage Yiddish typewriters. Also on view will be original typescripts by dozens of Yiddish writers, among them Isaac Bashevis Singer, Chaim Grade, and Marc Chagall, many with the writers’ own editorial markings.
We are grateful to the AJHS for hosting us at the Center for Jewish History, providing tours of their exhibitions, and sponsoring the wine and cheese reception!
