SPC Alexei Joyahas volunteered to represent the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation as its “sports celebrity” to compete in the “Take the Splash” for Charity Flume Race Competition at White Water Park hosted by the Marietta Business Association!  
 
Winner for the Soldier of Year at the Army National Guard 2018 Region III Best Warrior Competition is Specialist Alexi Joya of the Georgia National Guard 201st Regional Support Group! SPC Joya will now move on to compete in the NATIONAL competition taking place this July, in Pennsylvania.
 
In April 2018,Soldiers from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, the Virgin Islands and Kentucky tested their knowledge, skills and abilities by conquering urban warfare simulations, demonstrated critical thinking, formal board interviews, physical fitness challenges, written exams, and warrior tasks and battle drill relevant to today’s operating environment at the Region III Best Warrior Competition in Tullahoma, TN.
 
Prior to the Regional Competition, SPC Joya, who also is in the University of North Georgia’s Corps of Cadets, won the GAARNG Best Warrior Competition in March 2018.
 
In the Competition, Joya took first place in combat water survival test; 12 mile/70 pound ruck march; Army physical fitness test; individual movement technical course; weapons familiarization; and day and night land navigation.
 
Joya is a sophomore from Gainesville, GA, majoring in general studies with concentrations in biochemistry, Russian and leadership.  He is also a member of UNG’s Ranger Challenge Team.

The Georgia National Guardserves both state and federal governments.  In
times of local natural disasters or civil disturbances, the Georgia Guard
stands ready to help civilian authorities. When international conflicts
arise, it serves alongside active military.  When soldiers and airmen of the
Georgia National Guard face unexpected financial hardships, they turn to the
Georgia National Guard Foundation for emergency relief assistance. The
Foundation is a non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation governed by a Board of
Directors and it is recognized as an official support organization of the
Georgia National Guard. Federal ID # 58-2124143.

Service Members from all categories have received emergency assistance, i.e.
payments to avoid eviction, foreclosure, utilities disconnection and
repossession of vehicles.  Throughout inception, the Foundation has assisted
victims of house and apartment fires, tornados, floods and other natural
disasters.  Eligible members have received emergency travel and funeral
expenses assistance.  The Foundation has supported Guard members injured
during deployment and training or those experiencing temporary pay problems.
These are examples of the multiple requests for assistance that the
Foundation receives each week.  More than 3,200 Georgia National Guard
members and their families have received over $2.8 million dollars in
financial assistance!
