Delta Gamma’s Philanthropy is Service for Sight

Our annual spring fundraising event is Anchor Splash. Fellow Foresters create teams, competing in relay races and performing synchronized swimming routines. Anchor Splash is one of the biggest social events at Lake Forest College.

Volunteering

Delta Gamma supports one of our most precious senses: vision. As Delta Gammas, we want to stop blindness before it starts as well as help make life the best it can be for those currently affected by vision loss. Delta Gamma started schools for the blind and visually impaired over 55 years ago. With donations, we have been able to help individuals become independent and better their communication and mobility skills.

Delta Gammas stress volunteer work. Through spreading the word on campus by setting up tables outside of the cafeteria through the lunch and dinner hours, we are showing how vision impairments can severely affect the lives of others. Last year, we went to the local recreation center and guided middle school students through activities and taught the students facts about blindness and vision impairments. We also participated in Hadley Walk for the Blind, where we walked with veterans with vision impairments and their seeing eye dogs. We have established our Golden Anchor Program with Lake Forest Place, a local retirement community, and are working with elders participating in activities such as Bingo where we help the residents find the numbers on their cards. As well as helping with vision, the socialization is great for both our collegiate members and the residents.

Anchor Splash is a great way to show our enthusiasm for Service for Sight. More than 100 Delta Gamma collegiate chapters host Anchor Splash to raise awareness and funds for the Foundation. We are so excited for Anchor Splash 2013 at Lake Forest College!
