DPhiE Gamma Epsilon - Deepher Dude 2017!

Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system, was virtually unknown to the general population until 1955. It was then that a group of parents formed CFF to be the driving force in pursuit of a cure. One of those parents was Phyllis Kossoff, a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Chapter at Hunter College. In 1967, Phyllis came to Convention and shared her endeavors, resulting in the partnership our sisters so passionately support today.

Deepher Dude is an annual event put on by the Delta Phi Epsilon Gamma Epsilon chapter to raise both awareness and monetary funds for our national philanthropic partner, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. More than 30,000 people are living with cystic fibrosis in the United States with approximately 1,000 new cases being diagnosed each year. The genetic disease is chronic, meaning that there is no cure for cystic fibrosis and those affected by cystic fibrosis do have a shorter lifespan than those not affected by cystic fibrosis. However, CFF, through research, is determined to continue expanding on treatment options with the hopes of eventually turning CF from Cystic Fibrosis to Cure Found.

Deepher Dude hopes to help this incredible organization through a light-hearted male pageant show. This event has several male contestants go through different rounds which last year included a talent round, a formal round, and a round specific to DPhiE and CFF. Throughout the night the contestants are asked questions relating to CF and the foundation in order to help remind them and inform our audience why we are putting on this event. This past October, we were able to raise $11,327.24 for CFF, an unprecedented achievement. This was only possible due to the unbelievable efforts of our sorority which began fundraising in the summer months. This event not only unites our sisters as an organization, but it unites our entire campus community, encouraging members from other organizations to participate as contestants, to raise money and to raise awareness for CFF.

Delta Phi Epsilon, as an organization, has donated over $1 million to research in hopes of making CF stand for Cure Found. Your donation today will directly go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and help researchers find a cure.
