Visit the registration website for more information.2019-20 School Year Calendar AnnouncedIn case you missed the announcement over the summer, the School Board adopted the calendar for the 2019-20 school year. The first day of school will be Monday, August 26, 2019, and the last day will be Friday, June 12, 2020. Notable dates include a three-day break for Thanksgiving (November 27-29, 2019) a two-week winter break (December 23, 2019 to January 3, 2020) and a one-week spring break (April 6-10, 2020). In early November we were joined for the day by Hugh Whitehead of Fairfax County’s Urban Tree Management Division. Hugh brought 10 tall trees (each about 10 to 12 feet tall), generously provided by the county’s Tree Conservation Fund, for us to plant around the playground. Mantua Elementary is fortunate to be the recipient of this many large trees. Read more about the event here

Do you need a night off to go shopping for the holidays, have a date night or just put your feet up? Then Woodson Parent’s Night Out is for you! Simply drop your elementary school child off at Woodson High School on December 7th at 6pm. Your child will enjoy a fun-filled evening that will include arts and crafts, games, a pizza party dinner and a movie. Pick up is at 9:30pm. Space is limited so register early to reserve your spot! All profits will go to support Woodson Math Center, a program that provides free peer math tutoring. Cost: $35 per child. Early Bird Discount (by November 16th) $30 per child. Family discount: $35 for the first child, $30 for each additional child. In order to register, please mail back a completed registration form (2 pages) for each child along with a check made out to W.T. Woodson HS to Woodson High School c/o Valerie Silver. Reminder About Early Dismissals
As shared in the first day folders, children will not be called out of class for early dismissal after 3:40pm and cannot be released to anyone other than a parent unless that person is on the emergency care card. The exception to the emergency care card requirement would be a release authorized by the parent through an email to mantuaesattendance@fcps.edu received prior to 1pm that day.
For “play dates” notes from parents of both the visitor and the host will be required for students planning to go home with a friend or neighbor after school. Students without corresponding notes will follow their typical dismissal plan.
