Online Directory Opt-out
Mantua Online Directory Opt-out Please complete this short form if you do NOT wish to be published in The NEW Mantua PTA Online Student Directory. The NEW Mantua PTA Online Student Directory contains student names, teachers, parent names and email addresses of Mantua ES's families as well as some important school information. The information you provided to the school upon registration of your child(ren) will be used to create our directory—unless you have since updated your information with the front office. The majority of parents opt to include their family's information in the directory as it is a great resource for parents, students, and faculty throughout the school year.

Frost’s 5th annual Falcons on the Run 5K and Fun Run
Frost’s 5th annual Falcons on the Run 5K and Fun Run is Nov 17th. This event serves as Frost’s single school-wide fundraiser, but more importantly as an opportunity to bring our communities together for a morning of building connections, fun, and fitness. Frost’s event also supports the Hope for the Warriors organization that supports many of our local military families and Frost’s Food 4 Thought food pantry that provides food to those in need over weekends and holidays. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate the day of the event. New this year, Fairfax County Sheriff's department will be present to offer FREE Child ID Cards. Visit the event site or reach out to Laura Reed (lareed@fcps.edu) to learn more about participating, volunteering, donating, sponsoring, or other opportunities.

Reminder About Early Dismissals

As shared in the first day folders, children will not be called out of class for early dismissal after 3:40pm and cannot be released to anyone other than a parent unless that person is on the emergency care card. The exception to the emergency care card requirement would be a release authorized by the parent through an email to mantuaesattendance@fcps.edu received prior to 1pm that day.

For “play dates” notes from parents of both the visitor and the host will be required for students planning to go home with a friend or neighbor after school.  Students without corresponding notes will follow their typical dismissal plan.

National Geographic GeoBee
Mantua will be hosting a school GeoBee again this year for 4th - 6th graders (it is a strict National Geographic rule, we can't allow other grades). A date for the competition will be forthcoming, but if your student is interested, please follow the link for rules and ideas for studying.

Fall Classroom Parties - Tips
Fall parties are soon upon us. In support of Mantua's Eco initiatives, please consider the following, this will help protect the environment and save $’s along the way.
1) Ask kids to bring their own reusable water bottles. Mantua now has its own refillable water station to use. Help phase out plastic water bottles at Mantua.
2) Stick to finger foods! Avoid using plastic utensils which will never degrade in landfills. Cut up fruit, chips, crackers and cheese. Make parties centered around activities and movement, and less on treats.
3) Don’t use styrofoam products, which contain styrene which can cause adverse health effects. If you need plates, buy small compostable and biodegradable ones. You can find them on Amazon, and also earn $’s for the school.
4) For activities, consider an outdoor event or using recyclable materials for craft projects.
5) Forgo plastic tablecloths and decorations, the kids will have fun either way! Minimize the amount of trash produced - it will make set-up and clean-up afterwards much easier!

Shopping Online?
Anyone (parents, family and friends) who shops on Amazon can effortlessly earn money for Mantua ES by simply using a special Amazon link on Mantua PTA website.  No sign-ups or codes required, no loyalty cards to manage - just click, shop, and watch the contributions to Mantua ES come in! Help us cast a wider net by sharing the links with friends and family. Go to http://www.mantuapta.org and click the Amazon link before beginning your shopping and Amazon will donate to our school.  The link is located in the upper right corner of PTA website and also further down under "passive fundraising".
