Dear Point Vicente Parents –
To Our Point Vicente Families: Whether you are cooking for the holiday, or attending as the guest, whether you are traveling or staying at home, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. This American holiday is an opportunity for us all to reflect on all that we have been given, the interdependence we have with our neighbors, and the importance of a thankful heart. On behalf of all of us at Point Vicente, Happy Thanksgiving. I'll be cooking - and I'm lucky enough to have family around the table. We'll save leftovers for turkey sandwiches while we watch football for days! Go Buckeyes! Beat Michigan! (The most important game of the year!)
Enjoy the long weekend - and be ready when we return for Parent Conferences (Minimum Day Schedules!)

Resources for Victims of California Wildfires
California State PTA's mission is to positively impact the lives of all children and families – a mission that is always important but especially so during times of crisis. The state of California has been devastated by wildfires this fall and they can be unsettling, and dangerous, for children to experience. Learn how to help children cope with wildfire at www.capta.org/coping-with-wildfires.
A public health emergency in the state of California has been declared due to the wildfires, and the Trump Administration has approved California’s request for direct aid to those in Napa and Sonoma counties who have suffered losses due to the wildfires. Survivors who live in Sonoma and Napa counties can now apply online for federal Individual Disaster Assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov or by phone at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585.
Applicants who use 711 or Video Relay Service may call 800-621-3362. The toll-free numbers are open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. More information on the federal Individual Disaster Assistance program is available at www.fema.gov. Learn more about the hazards of smoke and precautions you can take from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at www.cdc.gov/features/wildfires.
YOU Believe in Children and in PTA – Thank You!
During the season of gratitude, we are thankful for everyone who values the education, safety and well-being of all children. Thank you PTA members! Just by joining PTA, you show that you believe in children and believe in PTA.
Give the gift of a PTA membership to others and show your school community how we can all positively impact the lives of children and families. PTA membership supports student success in your own community, across the state and across the nation. Plus, members have exclusive access to money-saving Member Perks for everything from school supplies to rental cars to museum discounts! Learn more at www.capta.org/member-perks.
LAST CHANCE! TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
Would you like to be included in the 2017/18 Point Vicente PTA Student Directory? The Directory is wonderful resource for Pt Vicente families to connect with one another! Many use it for party invitation lists and holiday cards! The directory will be made available both on-line (option to opt out of online is available) and in hard copy. You decide what information you would like published! All members of the PTA will receive one! Don’t miss out by registering your information HERE!!! | A Message from PVPUSD: Dear PVPUSD Parent Community, We are asking PVPUSD parents, and students in grades 3 -12, to participate in an annual Local Control Accountability Planning (LCAP) Survey. The purpose of this survey is to gather information from a variety of sources about the educational environment within the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District that contributes to the production of high academic achievement levels for all students. The main emphasis of this survey focuses on the conditions of learning, pupil achievement outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and pupil safety. This is an anonymous survey and the collective results will be shared during Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) meetings to guide local priority development, actions, and services. The aggregate survey results will be available on the PVPUSD website, under the department of Educational Services in March. We have separated and specified the surveys into five major categories which include: Elementary Students (grades 3-5), Secondary Students (intermediate & high school), Parent, Certificated Staff, and Classified Staff. We are asking both you, the parent, and your student in grades 3-12, to click on the link provided and complete the applicable survey. Your responses will help guide the funding priorities for the PVPUSD Board of Education. The surveys will be open until March 17, 2017. Thank you for your participation in this process, your time and attention is greatly appreciated.
