As we move closer to the end of the school year there is a lot going on. This week (May 2-6th) is Teacher Appreciation Week. Be sure to submit your nominations for the Golden Apple and Acorn awards.
We are looking forward to seeing you at Open House in a few weeks and at our Science Carnival in June. We will also have our last dine out fundraiser night of the year at Chipotle on May 17th.
Our last PTA Membership meeting of the year is May 12th. We will be voting in the new executive board and approving our interim budget for next school year. We are still accepting nominations for President and Treasurer.See you soon!Jenn Atherton

 May General Membership MeetingOur Last Membership meeting of the year will be Thursday, May 12th at 6:30pm on Zoom. Come vote for next year's PTA leaders and approve our interim budget for the following school year.
We are still looking for nominations for the President and Treasurer positions. Nominate yourself or a friend. Terms are 1-2 years and the President position can be shared. For both positions there is training and support available from local and state leaders. If you have any questions about either position email bcpresident@briarcrestpta.org.

 Chipotle Dine Out NightIt’s that time again! Time to Dine Out and raise funds for our beloved school with one last delicious fundraiser meal this school year.

Art Docent at School - Volunteers Needed in the Classroom!
We need your help! The Art Docent program (as part of the Briarcrest PTA) is planning an in-class art project for the month of May.
Art Docents are volunteers who teach art in the classroom. There are no set requirements or qualifications, just a willingness to learn and teach. You don’t have to be an artist to be an Art Docent!
We are still looking for volunteers in these classes: Grabow, Sturgess/ Cavallon, Peter, Tamez, Shin/ Pitts, Holguin, Rose, Grimm
If you are interested in volunteering:
- First, complete the district’s volunteer application. Due to the high volume of submissions it’s taking 2-3 weeks for this to be processed, so please complete ASAP.
- You will receive a brief training on how to present and complete the art project in the classroom.
- You will then need to schedule a day (maybe two) and time that works best for you and your teacher to come and do the project with the class.
The Art Docents will provide all the supplies you need for this project. If you’re interested in participating or would like more information please contact Jacky and Danielle at briarcrestart@gmail.com.

Help us recognize and celebrate our amazing educators and volunteers!
Our Golden Apple and Golden Acorn nominations are open now until Thursday, May 12th.
Nominate that special educator and volunteer in your life that has gone above and beyond serving our school, students, and community. The winners will receive a small gift basket and will be recognized at the Council PTA Awards Recognition Event in late May.

Talent Show Rules and Guidelines
- Your video act will need to be 2 minutes or less
- Briarcrest Students Only
- You will need a clear quality video of your talent submitted no later than 5/11
- All video performances will be screened for appropriateness by the talent show committee
- Absolutely no profanity, or insensitive subject matter will be permitted
- Costumes must be appropriate
- Everyone participating must return a completed and signed parental permission form
- Signing this form gives the PTA permission to post your student’s video on the Briarcrest YouTube Talent Show
 Take Me Out to the Ballgame!Do you love summer, baseball, and friends? You’re in luck! You can enjoy all these things at once AND raise funds for Briarcrest PTA!
Join us Sunday, August 28th at 1:10pm for Briarcrest Elementary Summer Celebration at a Mariners vs Guardians baseball game. Tickets - at the 300 level - are $15 per person. We will end ticket sales June 1st so get them quickly! Feel free to bring your friends and extended families!
Ticket purchase details: Checks can be made out to “Briarcrest PTA” – be sure to include your student(s) name and # of seats in the note field. Turn in clearly marked checks or cash with this form to your student’s teacher or to the office.

2022 Legislative RecapHere are some key legislative accomplishments that Washington State PTA was involved with supporting this year:
- SHB 1590 will provide school districts with enrollment stabilization funds for the 2021/22 school year equal to half of their enrollment decline from the 2019/20 school year. It will also allow school districts to use 2019/20 enrollment levels to set limits on levy funds collected in 2023.
- 2SHB 1664 will increase state funding for nurses, social workers, psychologists, and counselors in phases through the 2024/25 school year.
- E2SHB 1153 will require most school districts to adopt a language access policy and procedures that will help them engage with non-English speaking families.
- ESHB 1699 will temporarily allow school districts to rehire retired school staff without jeopardizing their retirement benefits. This may help with our current staff shortage problem.
- SSB 5933 establishes a school seismic safety grant program that will help schools make renovations to increase safety in case of earthquakes and tsunamis.
- ESSB 5078 will limit the sale of high-capacity magazines to no more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
 Little Free Pantry
Briarcrest PTA has adopted the Little Free Pantry located on the corner of 25th and 145th in the Shoreline United Methodist Church parking lot. Please drop off any non-perishable food donations or personal care items at the Little Free Pantry. There is also a box on the loading dock at Briarcrest to collect pantry donations.
The PTA is encouraging every grade to be responsible for stocking the pantry each month the rest of the school year.

We have an amazing team of volunteers this year working hard to bring great programs to Briarcrest, but we have a few areas we still need help with! We are especially in need of volunteers to help with Communications, Fundraising, Talent Show (video compilation), Art Docents, and our Science Carnival.
