Ruth Parr Sparks Foundation Grant
The Ruth Parr Sparks Foundation has awarded FlatsWorthy Inc. $15,000 for the creation of an instructional video. The video will feature information on the decline of coastal vegetation over the past 25 years on St. Joe’s Island, how boater behavior can impact vegetation declines, and the proper way to show etiquette on the flats. The video will be directed by David Sikes and Chuck Naiser, and produced by the University of Texas Marine Science Institute and the Mission Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve. The target completion date on this video is fall of 2019. The University of Texas Marine Science Institute and the Mission Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve will also work with FlatsWorthy to promote the video and showcase its message to a wider audience. It is our intention that this video serves as a teaching tool for the links between angler/boater behavior, vegetation health, fish populations, and our experiences out on the water. It is just one more way for us to get our message out there.
$10,000 Donated by the Ross Craft Family
The Ross Craft Family has made a donation to FlatsWorthy Inc. of $10,000 for general uses. This generous gift from the Ross Craft Family will be earmarked for general uses, and will support FlatsWorthy outreach, conservation, and other projects. FlatsWorthy is as strong as it is because of the generous contributions of members like the Ross Craft Family.

New Chapters
FlatsWorthy is Growing. Two new chapters of FlatsWorthy are in their final stages of forming including the Harlingen Chapter, to be called the “ Lower Laguna Madre Chapter” and the Corpus Christi Chapter. We are also in the formative stages of creating the Houston Galveston Chapter. Capt. Chuck Naiser will be speaking at Fishing Tackle Unlimited in Houston this coming December to further the creation of this chapter. Wherever FlatsWorthy expands to, the emphasis will always be on respect for the resource, respect for fellow anglers, and respect for ourselves.

Lone Star Law
Everyone’s favorite show, which debuted on August 16th on Animal Planet, Lone Star Law has asked FlatsWorthy to appear in an upcoming episode. This is a major opportunity for FlatsWorthy because Lone Star Law averages in at about a million viewers. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of the stressors on the resource, and the ways that better etiquette and stewardship can combat these stressors. Filming will begin at the upcoming 8/10 meeting at the Inn on Fulton Harbor and continue over several days.
