Fall 2020 Newsletter

President's Letter

Dear Sisters,

What a time to be a Delta Gamma! And to be self-centered for a moment, what a time to be your Atlanta alumnae president. I'm sure we're all tired of the phrase, "unprecedented times," but it truly is an accurate statement. Never before have we had a Zoom Kickoff, or have so many of our sisters been kept at home.

But that hasn't meant that we haven't continued to strengthen the unbreakable bonds of our sisterhood. It may sound a little crass, but to quote someone I've come to greatly admire, I never like to waste a crisis, and neither, it would seem, do Delta Gammas. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, our sisterhood here in Atlanta and around the country has come together to support one another and our frontline workers: be they healthcare workers, grocery store employees, delivery drivers and more. Delta Gammas have sewn masks, donated food supplies, and perhaps most importantly, served as a support system for one another.

Which is why we have selected "Unbreakable Bonds" as the theme for this year.

I hope you all were able to attend our kickoff yesterday, where you got to hear about all of our accomplishments from last year and much of what we have planned for this year, so I won't repeat myself, especially as our presentation will be available to those who weren't able to attend here. I will, however, just call out our chapter's recognition at Convention from Region 3 (Award of Excellence)  and the recognition at Convention as the Outstanding Programming Runners-Up. I'm so proud of this chapter!

You can expect that same level of incredible programming this year, whether virtual or in-person, based on your comfort level and interests. Your ATL DG Board has your safety at the top of our minds, and will always follow state and federal heath recommendations for our events. Our work supporting our philanthropic vision will continue as well - our vp: Foundation has been working with all of our local organizations to decide how we can best be of support, and I have full confidence that together, we will come to a workable solution for everyone.

It may not be the 2020/2021 we were expecting, but it's going to be an incredible year nevertheless. Should you ever have any suggestions, questions, comments or concerns, know that I am always available at president@atldg.org

I leave you with a quote that is (allegedly) attributed to Louisa May Alcott, that I think is perfect for this time, and for Delta Gammas:

"I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship."

ITB,
Emily Dowdell

This fiscal year (7/1/2020-6/30/2021) within Delta Gamma, we understand that our world looks very different today. As members of the Do Good Sisterhood, we have seen you rise to the occasion by putting our purpose to practice.

The majority of local dues payments go toward our local Service for Sight organizations and collegiate scholarships/support.

Now, more than ever, we want you to join us in being an unstoppable force for good. Click the Pay Now button below to pay our $10-$50 local Atlanta dues and the $33 per capita dues to the Fraternity. Click the Pay Now button below to pay both types of dues and note that if you are one of the 100 sisters that have already paid one or both, the charge(s) will not be listed for you. If you are viewing this newsletter from social media please click here to pay local dues and here to pay per capita.

We would like to give special recognition to our Bronze level members who pay our highest dues level and our Loyalty members who were initiated in 1968 or earlier making them Delta Gammas for 50 years and are no longer required to pay dues, but do so anyways to support our chapter!
