I want to thank you all for making my year as president such a rewarding experience.   Everyone brings something great to the party - you guys are smart and funny, big picture and detailed, techy and artsy, light-hearted and serious.  You've got many things on your plate and you still made time to be involved with our KCDG board.  We've had a great year thanks to all your efforts.

The necklace and earrings that you gave me are my new favorites and I wear them all the time!  I love the anchor & sisters charms and all things that sparkle so you couldn't have chosen anything more perfect.  And the donation to Alphapointe was so very generous and touching.  Thank you so very much.

Hope you are having a good summer and look forward to seeing everyone soon!!
ITB,
Susan Kastner

Dear Sisters—

Happy Summer! I just returned from the 68th Biennial Convention in Phoenix, and I am
on a Rah Rah DG roll! Being in the company of more than 900 collegians and alumnae
was inspiring, to say the least. As I attended workshops and meetings and accepted
awards, I was so proud to learn how strong and effective our Greater Kansas City chapter
is. After three full days of networking, my brain and notebook are full of ideas, which I
will share with Board members and anyone else who will listen.

A big focus at this Convention were the newly-adopted Standards for Alumnae Groups.
They dovetail with those for collegiate chapters to provide clear and high expectations for
our group’s success and establish the criteria that we are judged by. We rank as a
“Bronze” chapter—the highest designation—and by continuing our good work, we
should retain our outstanding reputation among other alumnae chapters and Executive
Offices.

Stay cool during the upcoming weeks, and I’ll see you before we know it!
In the Bonds,

Jennifer Parker Burrus

Alphapointe is excited to report an influx of clients seeking rehabilitation services! To support this influx, they have requested assistance from the women of Delta Gamma.
  • They would appreciate volunteers in their computer lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-noon to read tests to clients and record their answers.
  • They also need a volunteer to assemble files for new clients three hours a week, any day of the week.

Please consider supporting this wonderful organization!

Whether you're available to help once, or every week, the gift of your time would be most welcome. Contact Becky Casey at rebecca.t.casey@gmail.com to express your interest.

Mu Chapter Report

Our sisters are having a lot of fun this summer! Whether it is travel, internships, work, or summer classes, our women stay busy, but still make time to get together with their sisters.

And, while we all are enjoying summer, we are super excited for Recruitment, and the pledging of another outstanding New Member Class!  Our Recruitment Prep Week (formerly Work Week) begins on August 5th, Recruitment is August 13th-18th, and Bid Day is August 19th.

We are excited to have Caryll Shultz, M, as our adviser, Lexi as our vp: membership, and Hannah as our director: recruitment. And, it’s really helpful that all 3 of these women live in the Kansas City area! Should you have any questions, please email Caryll csch564799@aol.com, as she is the alumnae liaison to the chapter.

We encourage you to write sponsor forms for any potential new members you know. You may send the sponsor form, resume, and photo electronically via

https://www.deltagamma.org/sponsor-form

Or, click DG Sponsor Form Document Word.doc  for a sponsor form, and email it to mudgsponsorship@gmail.com. Please submit the information by July 31st if possible.

Here’s a video of last year’s Bid Day, with the theme Slide Home to Delta Gamma. I imagine it will bring back fond memories of your celebrations as collegians!

If you are able to join us, thank you! And, please RSVP by Friday, July 20th to Hannah via mudgprogramming@gmail.com )

But Check Back in the Fall!

 Convention 2018

The 68th Biennial Delta Gamma Convention, “Reflecting on Sisterhood” was held at the Biltmore resort in Phoenix, Arizona, from June 28-30. Four Greater Kansas City alumnae attended: Jennifer Burrus, Barb Boersma, Sarah Curfman, and Lucinda Rice-Petrie.

The schedule was packed with Fraternity business, a lot of fun, and the opportunity to reflect on DG’s rich history, dynamic present, and shining future. Anchor Academy was held all day Thursday, and Jennifer Burrus was seated with alumnae presidents from other large chapters.

Anchor Academy highlighted the twelve Standards for Alumnae Groups and provided a forum to learn from other chapters and give information about how Greater Kansas City operates. Also on Thursday, Sarah Curfman spent the day in Leadership meetings. As a Region 5 Finance Specialist, she has a very important role with collegians and the fiscal health of their chapters.

On Friday and Saturday, the General Sessions were held all the delegates and visitors. Wilma Johnson Wilbanks was elected and installed as President, along with an impressive Council that will provide our governance in the upcoming years. The proceedings also included reports and resolutions, an In Memorium tribute, and a full Initiation ceremony—always an inspiring event!

The Delta Gamma Foundation Annual Meeting was held on Friday, and three new Trustees were elected at that time. Molly Burke, a blind social media star and motivational speaker, provided the Convention Lectureship in Values and Ethics. She gave us many things to think about and a good takeaway message about forgiveness and perseverance.

In addition to the General Sessions, the GKC members attended Region 5 business meetings with other alumnae and collegiate chapter presidents. Greater Kansas City received two regional awards: Outstanding Philanthropy – Fundraising (for NOKAN) and recognition for being #8 in Service for Sight Hours for 2017-18.

At the final banquet on Saturday night, it was a privilege to receive the runner-up Alumnae Membership Development Award in front of more than 900 people. We worked very hard on our award applications, and it was a thrill to receive this recognition. Aside from business meetings, Convention held banquets with speakers and receptions that provided priceless opportunities for catching up with sisters and making new friends. Our network of sisterhood is broad and deep, and Convention was a perfect time to strengthen it.

The 2020 Convention will be held in St. Louis, so let’s think ahead about volunteering or attending as visitors.
