Happy Spring DGs!!

Kansas City Delta Gamma is buzzing with activity right now!  Earlier this month we celebrated our chapter’s 96th Founders Day with an inspiring morning so beautifully planned by Lailan Bressler and Amy Vlasic.  The Nominating Committee presented an outstanding 2018-19 Slate of Officers which was voted on and approved by the Chapter.  Many thanks to the Nominating Committee (Susan Durbian, Beth Kelloff, Katie Kopp, Janise Naughton and Jennifer Parker-Burrus) for their efforts and the thoughtful consideration needed to do this job.  And to all who said yes to lead our chapter next year…. THANK YOU!!

April 6th will be here before we know it!  Last minute preparations are taking place for our 4th Annual Night of Knowledge and Nonsense.  Don’t miss your chance to support this event!  Volunteers, table hosts, guests and donations are all essential to our raising the most money possible for our philanthropies – Alphapointe, Children’s  Center for the Visually Impaired and the Delta Gamma Foundation.  It is not too late to get involved!  Read on to find out more!

We’re having a great year because so many of you have turned out and attended events this year, volunteered your time, paid your local dues and shared your energy and enthusiasm!  Thank you so much for that!  DG Convention takes place this summer.  As we write up our reports on all aspects of our chapter, I just want to say you have much to be proud of.   It is hard to fit all of the good things you do inside and outside of our chapter in the space we are given.  We’re so lucky to have such a problem!

Read all the way to the end of this e-newsletter – there are so many things happening as we wrap up the year, we hope you’ll find something just for you!

In the bonds,
Susan Kastner, Mu

ALMOST THERE!

At the beginning of the year we set a membership goal of 300 dues payers.
We are so close.

As I read the numbers this morning we need only 15 more sisters to pay dues for this year. We will hold another drawing when we reach 300, so hurry! All dues payers up to that point will be eligible to win a beautiful Teena Tabor (DG) soap dish and a set of Susan Pryor (DG and my sister) handmade soaps to use on the that dish. Connect with us and help us DO GOOD!

We currently have 286 paid members for 2017-2018.
All local dues stay in the Kansas City area to support our alumnae activities and philanthropic pursuits.  Imagine what we could accomplish with your support.

With your local dues, we have been able to fund the following so far this year:

  • An Alphapointe summer youth camp breakfast
  • Fun and informative monthly meetings including Tai Chi, Pickleball and Holiday Decorating
  • Recruitment treats and Anchor Splash donations for our local collegiate chapters
  • A contribution to the KC Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship Fund
  • The production and mailing of our fall & winter newsletter
  •  Printing of our member directory
  • Memorial contributions to Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired
  • A Fun and Festive Christmas Brunch
  • A contribution to the CCVI Family Emergency Fund
  • Founders Day Celebration in March

DGs Doing Good - Report your Service Hours

It’s pretty well-known that DGs are very involved at CCVI and Alphapointe, but did you know DGs are Doing Good all over the Kansas City community? Here’s a sample of some other places our incredible alumnae volunteer:

Bethany Lutheran Church Czech English Camp Mission Trip * Big Brother Big Sister of Greater KC * Bishop Spencer Place * Briarwood Elementary School * Cancer Action * Cedar Hills Elementary * Church of the Nativity * Clinton County Retired Teacher's Association * Community Linc * Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County * Daughters of the American Revolution * Family Conservancy * Visiting elderly in retirement communities * Driving elderly to appointments * Happy Bottoms * Harvesters * James Taylor Lansing VFW Post 12003 * Jewish Family Services * Johnson County Community College GED Program * Junior League of Kansas City Missouri * KC Symphony Alliance * KU Audio Reader * Lee's Summit High School Debate Tournament * Mizzou Law Tax Competition * Mizzou Scholarship Applications Judge * Nativity Church * Nativity Parish School * Overland Park Aboretum * Overland Park Parks & Rec * Platte County Food Bank * SafeHome * Shawnee Mission Medical Center * Shawnee Mission East Bands * Somerset Care Center * Sophian Plaza Board * St Teresa's Academy * St. Luke's * Shawnee Mission Medical Centers * Temple B'nai Jehudah * The Giving Brick * Trinity United Methodist Church * United Way Greater Kansas City * Village Church * Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry/Clothes Closet * Westside Family * Whatsoever Community Center * Raytown South High School

Our chapter is applying for a special award that recognizes an alumnae chapter for its members' exemplary dedication to service, any type of service. We know you don't volunteer to be recognized, but don't be shy about sharing what you've done! One hour? One hundred hours? It all counts!

Simply click the "do good" logo below to submit your individual service hours. You don’t need to report hours volunteered during a chapter organized event – the event chair will do that for you.

The reporting period for this award is the past TWO fiscal years – July 1, 2016 through May 1, 2018. Simply estimate any hours you may contribute up to May 1. Please submit before April 20.

Alphapointe is excited to report an influx of clients seeking rehabilitation services! To support this influx, they have requested assistance from the women of Delta Gamma.

  • They would appreciate volunteers in their computer lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-noon to read tests to clients and record their answers.

  • They also need a volunteer to assemble files for new clients three hours a week, any day of the week.

Please consider supporting this wonderful organization!

Whether you're available to help once, or every week, the gift of your time would be most welcome. Contact Becky Casey at rebecca.t.casey@gmail.com to express your interest.

FOUNDERS DAY 2018

Founders Day 2018 was celebrated this year at Blue Hills Country     Club on Saturday, March 3, at 10AM. 10 Beta Kappas joined our   Greater Kansas City Chapter making our attendance 74. After opening   remarks, Debbie Link, Barbara Larison, Amy Vlasic, and Beta Kappa   President, Veronica Pattison presented our Candlelighting Ceremony remembering our three founders. Next, the names of those sisters who passed away last year were respectfully read by Barbara Larison.

Following the Candlelighting Ceremony, we honored our sisters in attendance celebrating significant anniversaries as members of Delta Gamma: 75 years - Helen Taliaferro (BK); 60 years - Annette Thomas (GU); and 50 years -Corlette Orr (DA), Laurie Fischer (MU), and Lynn Hardy (MU). Next, Roll Call was beautifully led by Jan Roach (AU), and then the slate of 2018-2019 officers was presented and voted on favorably by our members in attendance. Following the installation of new officers, grace, “Delta Gamma Gives Thanks” was sung by all, and brunch was served.

At the conclusion of brunch, Elizabeth Alex (Alpha Omega) gave a wonderful presentation of her recent humanitarian work with young women, children, and mothers in Uganda. She also shared her most recent volunteer efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. Because of the inspiring work Elizabeth has done this past year, the Greater Kansas City Delta Gamma Chapter named Elizabeth our Panhellenic Woman of the Year. Our Founders Day 2018 celebration concluded with announcements and faithfully closed with our Oath of Friendship.

A big thanks goes out to all those who helped with this year’s celebration – Amy Vlasic - Founders Day co-chair, Susan Kastner, Kathy Watkins, Barb Boersma, Kelly Henderson, Jan Roach, and Hannelore Brown.
