President
Dear DG Sisters,

When we join Delta Gamma in college, we're taught that DG is more than just a collegiate experience; it is a lifetime of commitment, support and opportunities.  A couple of weeks ago, I got a cool glimpse into what lifelong DG membership looks like.  Friday afternoon, I had the privilege of joining Silver Streakers group for their bi-monthly luncheon. In case you don't know them, the Silver Streakers is a group of women who have been Delta Gammas for 50 years and a more interesting and vibrant group of women would be hard to find!  This standing lunch date has been on the calendar for many years.

On Sunday of the same weekend, the Beta Kappa chapter at KU initiated its new member class. Spending time with the newly initiated and the 50 year members in the same weekend is like seeing a panoramic picture of a lifetime of Delta Gamma!. As college seniors shared their stories of fun and friendship with the new members, I couldn’t help thinking of the group of more than twenty women I’d shared lunch with on Friday. Most of these women were not even in college together; they became friends as alumnae. College really is just the beginning!   It is never too late to become involved as an alumna!

I hope you can make it to our  November 14 event at Indian Hills Country Club.  Jenny Steffens Hobick (Mu) will be sharing holiday entertaining ideas that are sure to inspire!

Start your holiday season with good cheer at our annual holiday brunch on Saturday, December 2 at Grand Street Cafe.  Check out the programming section for all the details of these gatherings.

The popular neighborhood meetings return in January!  Plans are underway and we still need a few sisters to volunteer to host a meeting in the Northland area and the 64114 area.  You're not all on your own - the Programming team will help you with the planning & invitations.  Please contact Rosalind Finch tweettweet9416@gmail.com if you would like to host a meeting.

We are grateful to each of you who have paid your 2017-18 local dues. Your support is vital to the success of our chapter. To find out how we put your local dues to work, keep reading to see all the many good things that are happening in our Kansas City Delta Gamma chapter. We can't do it without your help.

Enjoy the brisk fall weather and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

In the bonds,
Susan Kastner, Mu

DGs Doing Good - Report your Service Hours

Last year our alumnae logged 693 hours in service and awareness activities benefiting the Delta Gamma Foundation. To learn more about Delta Gamma Foundation initiatives such as Service for Sight, the Golden Anchor Program, Joining Forces and Guide Dog Training visit https://www.deltagamma.org/foundation/service-for-sight.

Click on the "do good" logo below to submit your individual service hours. You don’t need to report hours volunteered during a chapter organized event – the event chair will do that for you.

Delta Gamma takes pride in the generous spirit of its members; turn in your hours and let them be counted!

With the cooler weather and approaching holidays, we warmly remember our cherished family traditions. As Delta Gammas, we all share a long-standing tradition of "doing good."

This November, help us "do good" for Alphapointe and the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired, the organizations that we support with our annual fundraiser.

You can contribute in many ways--we are collecting bottles of red or white wine for our Blind Wine and Beer Table. Donate a bottle and bring it to our next meeting. Or pick up a $25 gift card from your favorite restaurant for our Gift Card Draw.

Have a creative flair? We need your talents to create an auction item. Last year's silent auction had a wonderful assortment of gift baskets and items available for bid including sports and entertainment themed auction items, anchor themed gift items, jewelry, art and home decor.

There are lots of ways to help. If you want more information,

CCVI

Anchor
As we continue to celebrate CCVI’s 65th year, Delta Gammas are being challenged to join the 20/20 Club. Our goal is 65 Delta Gamma members, and I know we can do it!

The mission of the 20/20 Club is to conduct fundraising activities for CCVI, increase community awareness of the school, and provide volunteers while giving its members an opportunity for personal development and lasting relationships. Membership fees are $40, or $70 a pair, and qualify you for discounts on events like SPECTACLE, which was $25 less than the ticket price for members.

Please help us make a difference, and commemorate this milestone, by being 1 of 65 Delta Gammas who accept the challenge! There are 20 DG members to date…45 to go!

Click HERE if you are interested in joining the 20/20 Club, and
thank you for your consideration!

Upcoming Events: So we can focus on the 30th Anniversary of our Trolley Run, Gingerbread Lane is cancelled this year, which also included the Holiday Luncheon and Breakfast with Santa. Should you need more details about the 20/20 Club, please contact Debbie Link, M, 20/20 Club Liaison, via debbiebertramlink@gmail.com or 816-769-5002.

 Mu Chapter Report
The women of Mu chapter were very busy preparing for Homecoming over the past month. Delta Gamma was paired with Phi Gamma Delta, and our theme was “Meeting Truman”. For skit and dance, they put a spin on our theme and created a game show called “Meet Your Tru-Man”. Our house deck was a spin on an ESPN show.

Following Homecoming, Mu chapter’s busy schedule continued. The day after Homecoming was the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, and we welcomed over 125 alumnae. Thank you to all of our alumnae who have supported the Capital Campaign, including the members of House Corporation and the Interior Design Committee. We hope next time you are in Columbia, you’ll visit our extraordinary home.

During the last week of October, we held Inspiration and Initiation. Our new members are so excited to officially join the amazing sisterhood we have at Delta Gamma.

A week later, on November 1st, we were thrilled to present “An Evening with Daymond John, who is the 23rd speaker of our Delta Gamma Foundation Lectureship in Values and Ethics. His is well known as one of the investors on “Shark Tank”, who at a young age, created FUBU, one of the most iconic urban fashion brands in the world. He is also the author of three acclaimed books, the most recent, “The Power of Broke”. Our lectures are always free of charge to University students, and we appreciate the alumnae who also joined us for the event.

Our last big event of the semester is Anchor Splash, which is during the week of November 6th. To culminate the week’s activities, on November 12th, our members, and the DG Coaches, are very excited to have a fun-filled day of comical swim relays and synchronized swimming routines. Proceeds will benefit Service for Sight, our amazing philanthropy.

Within Delta Gamma, we are in the midst of officer elections and transitions, and look forward to our annual Semi-Formal and Holiday celebration. We want to thank all of you for your support, and your donation to our Lectureship. We are also appreciative of your alumnae who serve on our Advisory Team and House Corporation. It’s great to have so much involvement from our alumnae sisters!

Beta Kappa Chapter Report

NEWS FROM BETA KAPPA-UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS

On October 2nd, our chapter received news we were going to have a “date dash” the next night. This meant each chapter member had only a few hours to ask a date to the date party. Our members loved this exciting surprise and enjoyed the PJ themed night with their sisters and dates at a bowling alley in Lawrence.

We hosted inspiration on Friday, October 20th and initiation on the morning of Sunday, October 22. 70 new members were initiated surrounded by mothers, sisters, aunts, and current chapter members of Delta Gamma. We were thrilled to celebrate our new members and loved having alumni join us on this special day!

Our chapter is getting ready for anchor splash, which is on Sunday, October 29th. The week leading up to the swim competition will include other competitive events between various sororities and fraternities on campus. These events include a banner competition, a basketball tournament, penny wars, and an Anchor Man competition.

If alumni are interested in attending the swim competition, they are welcome to email Sarah Smoot at bkdgfundraising@gmail.com.

Delta Omega Collegiate News

In August, the members of Delta Omega at William Woods University welcomed 16 new members. Three of these women are from the KC area. The remaining women come from various parts of Kansas and Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, New York, New Jersey and South Carolina.

Many thanks to our CDC, Liz Noe, our advisers and all who helped us with recruitment. In September, another successful Anchor Splash was held. We raised over $800 for the Delta Gamma Foundation! October was a busy month!

With mid-terms behind us, we had a sister retreat October 21. Part of the day involved a fun trip to a local corn maze and making caramel apples.

We finished out the month by participating in Chi Omega's Wish Week, raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

DGs gather at Chicken n Pickle - a new Special Interest Group in the making??

DGs gathered at the popular new venue, Chicken n Pickle in October for a chance to learn to play pickleball! Instruction was provided and it was a lot of fun! Following the event, we find that many local parks and recreation have pickleball instruction and courts as well as Chicken n Pickle. Could this be the start of a new DG Pickleball Group?

Email Susan Kastner at President@kcdg.org if your are interested!

CCVI thanks DG Volunteers

In September during Do Good Week Delta Gamma Alumnae volunteers did some crafting at CCVI.
