Fall Kickoff Meeting and
Introduction to Tai Chi with Bill Douglas
Tuesday, September 12 | 6:00 PM
Home of Janise Naughton
2304 W 125th St.
Leawood, KS 66209

Come join your Delta Gamma sisters and find out about all of the opportunities to DO GOOD and
FEEL BETTER this year with our award-winning alumnae chapter.   Whether you are looking for friendship, sisterhood, new experiences or philanthropic opportunities, you won't be disappointed!

Our program features an interactive Tai Chi class led by Bill Douglas, a best-selling, Tai Chi meditation author and founder of World Tai Chi Day.  He has taught Tai Chi at
some of the world's largest health institutions and for major corporations, sharing with many the  health and wellness benefits of the practice and his students have often seen profound benefits in all aspects of their lives. Modern research shows that Mind-Body practices like Tai Chi and meditation can prevent or treat most common health issues we face. Harvard Health Publications calls Tai Chi "medication in motion" because it helps to reduce stress and increase health, focus, and performance at any age. Mark your calendar and make plans to join us!

Light appetizers and desserts will be served. Special clothing is not required, but comfortable pieces that allow a range of movement will allow you to enjoy the experience.

Hope to see you there!  Click here to RSVP and get directions to the event.

This year’s mantra is "I can……for NOKAN!"
Friday, April 6, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Abdallah Shrine Temple - 5300 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas

Join us for another fun night of food, friends, frivolity and fundraising! Bring your family and friends or invite a DG sister that you haven’t seen for a while!  We need to increase our attendance this year, so that we can raise even more money for The Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, Alphapointe and the Delta Gamma Foundation.

To make our event a success, we need each of you, our loyal and dedicated alumnae, to help.  April 2018 may seem far away, but here are 2 ways that you can “DO GOOD” for NOKAN in September and especially during the week of September 10-16, which is Delta Gamma “Do Good” week.
  • Buy a $25 gift card from your favorite restaurant or pick one up from an area grocery store, then bring it with you to our next meeting and give to Cathy Lemon.  The Restaurant Gift Card Draw has been a very popular feature at our Night of Knowledge and Nonsense event (who doesn’t like eating out??) These gift cards have sold out quickly in past years, so we want to have more available to everyone this next year.

  • If you don’t want to buy a gift card right now, take an hour out of your day to go to your eye doctor’s office or to another business that you think may want to get involved with our fundraiser by sponsoring a round of trivia, donating cash or a silent auction item or by attending our event.

Please watch future newsletters for more ways that you can help. If you have questions or want to know other ways that you can get involved, please contact
Cathy Lemon at cathylemon520@gmail.com or (816) 560-9025.

I Can ”DO GOOD” for NOKAN!     Together, we all can DO GOOD for NOKAN!

Celebrate CCVI's 65th Anniversary
CCVI’s 65th Anniversary celebration will be quite a “SPECTACLE”. This Urban Street Party will take place in our Sensory Garden at 31st and Main, on Saturday, September 16th from 6-11 pm, complete with food trucks, and the award-winning band Darlingside.

What a way to end “DO GOOD” week — by recognizing our Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter as one of the founders of this extraordinary school, and celebrating all that has been accomplished for children with visual impairments since September 27, 1952! Tickets are $125 ($100 to 20/20 Club members). Click HERE if you would like to purchase tickets to SPECTACLE.

To celebrate CCVI’s 65th Anniversary, Delta Gammas are being challenged to join the 20/20 Club. The mission of the 20/20 Club is to conduct fundraising activities for CCVI, increase community awareness of the school, and provide volunteers while giving its members an opportunity for personal development and lasting relationships.

Our goal is 65 Delta Gamma members, and I know we can do it! Membership fees are $40, or $70 a pair, and qualifies you for discounts on events like Spectacle; the 20/20 Club member price is discounted $25 per ticket!

Please help us make a difference, and commemorate this milestone, by being 1 of 65 Delta Gammas who accept the challenge!

Click HERE to join the 20/20 Club, and thank you for your consideration!

For more information about the 20/20 Club or Spectacle, please contact
Debbie Link, 20/20 Club Liaison, at debbiebertramlink@gmail.com or 816-769-5002.

 Mu Chapter Report
The women of Mu Chapter are still glowing from our successful Recruitment! It started with Prep Week on August 5, and ended with Bid Day at Faurot Field on August 20.

It was exciting to show the PNMs (Potential New Members) our amazing new house, but more importantly, our amazing sisterhood! In the midst of Prep Week, we held our Mock Recruitment event for DG alumnae and parents. Thank you to the Kansas City alumnae who came—we loved meeting you! Everyone enjoyed being PNMs and going through “Open House” with our women. We even gave out favors to help them remember the fun day: a succulent with the tag “Thank You for Helping our Chapter Grow!” Our New Member Class of ‘17 is 63 strong; so yes, Mu Chapter is growing!!!

We loved every Party Day, and we think the PNMs did too! Included are a few photos and videos, as well as some from Bid Day. Our baseball theme “Slide Home to Delta Gamma”, was so fun! The baseball shirts made us stand out at Faurot Field as the seniors waited for the New Members to open their bid cards and run to meet them. Once they arrived at the house, our New Members were so excited to put on their Dee Gee t-shirts, and receive a decorated sailor hat from their Bid Day Buddy.

A special thank you to your alumnae chapter for helping us purchase the baseball cookies for our celebration—all 275 of us!!!
With one week of classes behind us, and before we know it, we will be pomping for Homecoming House Decs, and practicing our skit. And don’t forget, Sunday after the game is the official ribbon cutting ceremony, on October 22 at 10 am…alumnae from all chapters are welcome to attend!

Beta Kappa Chapter Report
Recruitment
Beta Kappa had a successful workweek and recruitment this year!  We were excited to welcome 71 new members to our chapter, 20 of which are legacies.  We received a lot of compliments on our new renovations, something we were very excited to show off during recruitment.  During workweek we had a sisterhood event where we went paintballing, which was a nice break during workweek where our sisters could relax and bond.  Our chapter put in a tremendous amount of work during those two weeks and we are very happy to welcome our new sisters to Beta Kappa.
Upcoming Events
We have a couple events this semester to look forward to.  Homecoming week is October 1-7, and Anchor Splash is October 23-28.  More information on both events will be sent out as the dates approach.
