DAPPLEGRAY PTA STRAW BALLOTThe search is on for PTA Executive Board members for the 2021-2022 school year!
Below is a brief list of PTA Board positions and descriptions. Take a look and see where you might like to get involved. If you know someone you think would be good for a particular position, feel free to nominate her/him. You can even nominate yourself or volunteer with a friend! The PTA Nominating Committee will be meeting in February to begin the process and contact potential candidates. That’s all there is to it! Think of the amazing things we can do together!
President — Attend monthly Council meetings. Oversee PTA monthly meetings, events, and financial matters. Liaison between the principal, staff, council and membership.
Executive VP — Attend monthly Council meetings. Assist President and help liaison with the Executive Board. Act in the President’s place during her/his absence and oversee the Gifting Committee, if needed. (This position is usually a precursor to the President position) 1st VP: “Organization” — Responsible for organization of and collection of school registration packets on Member Planet, distribute PTA membership cards and money. Organize Honorary Service Awards ceremony. Oversee room parents if there is not a room parent chairperson. (May have an assistant VP.) 2nd VP: “Hospitality” — Organize refreshments for monthly PTA meetings, Teacher Appreciation week and teacher/staff luncheons, assist with PTA installation luncheon for the next year's PTA board. (May have an assistant VP.) 3rd VP: “Education” — Organize school field trips, assemblies, and enrichment programs, including Reflections, Multicultural Week, and the Walk Through programs. (May have an assistant VP and chairs.) 4th VP: “Community Service” — Organize disaster preparedness, Red Ribbon and Yellow Ribbon Weeks and oversee campus safety. (May have an assistant VP.) 5th VP: “Communication” — Manage the bimonthly e-newsletter through Member Planet, Organize data collection and printing of the Colt Communicator (directory), and oversee publicity. (May have an assistant VP.) 6th VP: “Ways and Means” — Organize and coordinate school donation programs, including Ruby's Night, Restaurant Fundraisers, Roots, AmazonSmile, Boxtops, eScript programs. (May have an assistant VP.) 7th VP: “Legislation” – Attend monthly PVP Council Legislation meetings and report back to the Dapplegray PTA Executive Board. Advise PTA members of pending education legislation. Oversee Capitol Convoy, Mock Elections, and Student Council. Treasurer — Prepare monthly financial reports for meetings and for Council. Pay outstanding bills. Reconcile banking records. Financial Secretary — Receive all monies paid to the PTA and take them to the bank. Prepare financial reports for the Treasurer and for the monthly membership meetings. Auditor — Prepare three financial audits a year based on information received from the Treasurer and Financial Secretary. Prepare and present a written report of the audit to the membership. Recording Secretary — Attend all monthly membership and Executive Board meetings and take minutes. Maintain the secretary’s book and publish copies of monthly meeting minutes. Corresponding Secretary — Write any correspondence requested by Executive Board members. Acts as Recording Secretary if the recording secretary is absent. Historian — Maintain record of volunteer hours and submit to council. Take pictures of school events and maintain school bulletin boards. Prepare a project board of events that have taken place during the school year to be presented at the annual Council Meeting in March and the Council HSA awards in May. Parliamentarian — Ensures that monthly meetings follow parliamentary procedure as established in Robert's Rules of Order. Chairs the Bylaws Committee. Appoints and sets the date for the Nominating Committee. Assists the President and liaisons with the Nominating Committee chair during the annual election of the new PTA board. Calls for and submits delegates for the Council Annual Meeting. This position is appointed by the President, not elected.

Submissions to the Living History Museum of African American Heroes are due by January 31, 2021! Make sure to let us know if your child makes a submission so we can make sure to give them accolades!
