Dear Dapplegray Family,

We have made it through our first month of this unprecedented school year!  To our teachers, thank you for all of the extra hours and energy you are putting into teaching our children on new platforms and with new curricula.  Please know that we see you, support you, and stand with you during this challenging time.  To our DG parents, thank you for supporting your children, joining the PTA, donating to the Booster Club, and showing up for zoom meetings.  You are appreciated.

Dapplegray PTA has been hard at work preparing events for this school year.  First, please join us for our next PTA Meeting on Tuesday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m.  We ask that you register in advance by clicking on the link below.  We will be discussing our upcoming events, including Red Ribbon Week and the Reflections Art Contest.

Second, if you haven't joined PTA yet, please do!  Our goal is to reach 700 memberships this year.  We are very close to meeting this goal!  If we reach our goal, the whole school will be able to participate in a Milk, Cookies, and Bookies event.  Families will be able to drive through school to pick up milk and cookies to enjoy at home while listening to a story read by Mrs. Stutzel and others of the Dapplegray staff.  Please join today!  Remember, you can sign up all parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, and friends!

We hope this next month brings your family joy and good health.  Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  Your PTA is here for you!

Warmly,
Holly Woesner

GET YOUR FLU SHOT

Now more than ever, it’s important to get your flu shot.

Stay healthy during the pandemic and protect yourself from flu.

Both flu and COVID-19 will be present in LA County this year.

Quick Flu Facts
Influenza (flu) is a respiratory disease caused by viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs.

Flu is more than a bad cold. Flu can be mild to severe, and at times can lead to life-threatening illness like pneumonia, hospitalization or death.

Similar to COVID-19, flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Anyone can get flu (even healthy people), but people at high risk of developing serious flu-related complications include people 65 years and older, pregnant women children younger than 5 years people with chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or HIV)

Everyone 6 months and older should be immunized against flu.

The flu shot cannot give you the flu. Flu vaccines are made either with inactivated (killed) viruses or with only one part from the flu virus that cannot replicate. The nasal spray vaccine contains live virus that have been weakened so that they will not cause illness.

Flu vaccines are very safe. For more than 50 years, hundreds of millions of Americans have safely been vaccinated for flu. No vaccine is 100 percent effective, but having some protection is always better than having none.

Flu vaccines are safe for pregnant women. Pregnant women who get infected with flu are at much higher risk for serious illness, hospitalization and premature birth. Getting a flu shot will help protect them and the baby from flu until the baby can be vaccinated at 6 months.
