Thomas Jefferson AND 600 Waxahachie 8th Graders!
On Monday morning, October 2, 2017, straight from his engagement at the Chautauqua Assembly on Sept. 30, actor/historian Stephen Edenbo brought Thomas Jefferson to the Chautauqua Auditorium once again. This time he met with two separate groups of over 300 WISD 8th graders to give his insights into democracy and the Declaration of Independence.  He gave the students special advice about the importance of expressing their complaints and the best ways to do to that in a democracy. He emphasized that each person and each complaint was important and "equal".

THANKS TO TRASH CAN TRANSFORMERS!
l

Thanks to all the artists who participated in the Trash Can Transformation at the Waxahachie Chautauqua on Sept. 30!  Their talents and creativity were beyond all expectations.

A special thanks to Waxahachie art teacher DANIEL SMITH and Ennis art teacher LEAH LAWLESS-SMITH and their students for their amazing trash can transformations they brought to Getzendaner Park on 9/30.

And thank you to the artists who submitted their proposed designs and then came to the Chautauqua and painted them - while we actually got to watch the old cans transform into something beautiful:  KATELYNN RIOS, JACQUELINE MATHEWS, GERALD SPRIGGS, AND ALYSSA BEDRICK!   And also thanks to all the artists who showed up at the Chautauqua Assembly and decided right then to paint or help paint trash cans.  We were excited to have all of you!

Here's some NEWS:  Before making their way into the Waxahachie Parks, the painted Chautauqua trash cans will be on display at the Bob Phillips festival in downtown Waxahachie on October 28th.  See if you can spot them!
