ZBT hires Assistant Director of Hate Prevention

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity is proud to announce the hiring of David S. Dworkin, Alpha Beta (Greater Philadelphia Area) '17, as the Fraternity’s Assistant Director of Hate Prevention.

This newly created position has been made possible by the generosity of Brother Alfred (Al) K. Berg, Omicron (Syracuse University) ’73, and his wife, Gayle, in support of the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation’s Heritage Initiative and in particular ZBT’s Combatting Campus Anti-Semitism Program. To help combat the growing trend of anti-Semitism and hate on the college campus, Zeta Beta Tau has partnered with the Anti-Defamation League to offer their Words to Action program tailored to undergraduate students within the Greek community.

Brother Dworkin, as Assistant Director of Hate Prevention, will shepherd the growth of the Words to Action program, strengthen ZBT's partnership with the ADL and bring anti-hate education to more campuses. ZBT and the ADL have already been working with Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity and Sigma Delta Tau Sorority to provide programming that coaches men and women from all four organizations on ways they can work toward stopping discrimination.

He also will be the point person for ZBT's Hate Against One is Hate Against All campaign, a multi-faceted education program promoting awareness and dialogue that breaks down barriers and stereotypes, encourages students to have real conversations about hate culture and empowers brothers to act. It is the goal of ZBT to become a primary educator on the topic of anti-Semitism and hate prevention on college campuses worldwide.

"We are thrilled to bring on such a talented brother who is dedicated to the Mission of ZBT and our hate prevention efforts. The increasing level of anti-Semitism and other forms of hate on college campuses is alarming and ZBT is dedicated to growing in our role as a convener for all who are interested in creating a more peaceful and safe environment — not just for ZBTs, but for all who set foot on a college campus,” said Executive Director Laurence A. Bolotin, M.Ed., CAE, Alpha Zeta (University of Florida) '01.

Brother Dworkin is a native of the Chicagoland area and a brother the Alpha Beta Chapter in the Greater Philadelphia Area. During his time as an undergraduate at Temple University, he worked for Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10), the ADL and Equality Pennsylvania. He was also involved with Hillel at Temple University and The David Project.

"I'm thrilled to be working for ZBT, especially to be in a position that emphasizes the organization's commitment to countering anti-Semitism, racism and all other forms of hatred. ZBT and I both share a commitment to creating an organization that respects all people," Brother Dworkin said.

Dworkin will be a critical part of the future success of the ZBT undergraduate experience. He is working part time for ZBT until his graduation in May, and will start full time with the Fraternity on May 30. He plans to relocate to Chicago after graduation.
