NOKAN UPDATE! - Check it Out
Dear DG Sisters,
Mucho fun was had by all who attended Fiesta de las Delta Gamma! The forecast called for thunderstorms, but the weather was fine and around forty DGs were able to gather for one last celebration for this year! A delicious taco fiesta and bronze, pink and blue DG maracas for all got everyone in the Cinco de Mayo spirit! Many thanks to Barbara Haviland and Karen Jaqua for all their enthusiasm and creativity in planning the evening and to Barb Haden for opening up her beautiful home for our party!
After we had time to catch up with each other and have a bite, we had a few announcements and then presented local awards. Since we have one award still to be presented, we will wait to unveil the winners until next month’s newsletter. Let’s just say the winners were celebrated with heartfelt tributes and much shaking of the maracas!!
And then… the Anchor piñata came out – filled with fun goodies for all. What could be more fun? I hope that you each enjoy a fantastic summer filled with enough fun and enough relaxation to recharge your batteries.
Thank you all again for offering me the opportunity to serve as President this year. It has been a great experience. When I see all the good things you do, I’m more proud than ever to be a Delta Gamma! Who knew when we were 18 years old that this “sisters for life” was a real thing? Aren’t we lucky that it is?

We did it together!
Thank you to our 300 committed and dues paying Greater KC Chapter members. We did it with you help! We are able to do even more good because of you!
We have had three drawings this next year and will do the same. For every 110 members we will draw when that number is reached, so don't delay.
Dues for the 2018-19 fiscal year will open on July 1.
Should I offer an extra drawing number for those who bring a sister into our committed and dues paying group of sisters? Let me know at: inpiringyou@earthlink.net. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
YOUR DUES RESPONSE HAS BEEN FABULOUS AND WE’VE REACHED OUR GOAL OF 300 PAID MEMBERS THIS YEAR (ACTUALLY UP TO 301 NOW) All local dues stay in the Kansas City area to support our alumnae activities and philanthropic pursuits. 2018 Fundraiser Update With the most recent email and online request, we raised an additional $800 to donate to our 3 Night of Knowledge and Nonsense beneficiaries! Here's how the funds are being distributed:
- $3,100 to Alphapointe-which will be used for summer youth camp expenses
- $10,500 to the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired-for tuition expenses
- $1,511 to the Delta Gamma Foundation.
I want to take this opportunity to again thank those of you who have been so generous throughout the past year--supporting our fundraising efforts through not only cash donations, but also by the giving of your time and talents! Cathy Lemon
Looking Ahead to 2019... Kathy Dusenberry and I will be spearheading our Night of Knowledge and Nonsense fundraiser for a second year. We will be contacting many of you within the upcoming months to brainstorm ideas, begin planning and to discuss volunteer opportunities. Our committee has determined that it is crucial to get more cash donations from businesses and individuals prior to our event in April. Over the last few years, our net profits have remained within a range of $15,000 to $17,000. Our goal for 2019 is a net profit of $20,000! With your help, we can reach this goal to provide even more learning opportunities and fun activities for children with visual impairments in the KC Area in 2019.
CCVI Report
May 31, 2018 marks the successful conclusion of CCVI’s 65th year. Delta Gammas contributed time, talent and treasure to the school this year like every other. Our Greater Kansas City Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter donated $500 as well as gift cards donated by members to the Family Emergency Fund at the holidays. We will be sponsoring the School’s Celebration of Success Year End Student Recognition Program in honor of retiring Executive Director, Nicola Heskett. Not to mention our donation from Night of Knowledge and Nonsense that will be used for student scholarships for the 2018 – 2019 school year and a $25,000 Delta Gamma Foundation Grant for braille instruction for next year as well. We had many members volunteer time serving as Board members, classroom, garden and special project helpers as well as Trolley Run organizers and walkers. CCVI students and families are so very appreciative! In July of this year current Executive Director, Nicola Heskett leaves CCVI, concluding her 5 year leadership commitment. Nicola will no doubt be missed. The Board of Directors has announced the hiring of Molly Turner as new Executive Director. She brings a great deal of experience in the not for profit arena as well as advanced degrees in Not for Profit Leadership. Molly is a Kansas City native. As part of the interview process our own, Beth Haden served on the Board Executive Director Search Committee. CCVI Board members, friends of CCVI, parents and staff had the opportunity to meet the final 2 candidates before the offer was extended. Molly’s hiring was unanimously supported. Click on the link to read the CCVI Official Announcement welcoming Molly. Trolley Run results are in. In total there were 6835 registrations. The race met its goal of raising $350,000. Trolley Run is the largest fundraiser for CCVI. The weather was perfect and CCVI is grateful for the DG’s who volunteered and participated this year. Board Member elections were held this month. Delta Gamma will have 3 members on the CCVI Board next year. Katie Kopp becomes our Greater Kansas City Delta Gamma Alum Chapter Representative. Beth Haden was elected 2nd Vice President and member of the Executive Committee and the Children’s Center Campus Board. Beth will be in line for Board presidency in 3 years. Caryll Schultz was reelected Assistant Treasurer to the Board and serves on Executive and Finance Committees. Our CCVI 20/20 Club new representative will be Lynn Hindley. She will replace Debbie Link who has been a tireless supporter and cheerleader for CCVI during her term with 20/20. CCVI is looking forward to new and exciting things to come.

The end of the semester was very busy for the women of Mu Chapter. Following Greek Week and Mom’s Weekend, and before finals, we held our annual Pinafore Party. All the women had a fun time with their dates and sisters. We spent night one bowling and playing arcade games, and night two dancing the night away. And, we decorated sailor hats for our dates…a tradition we love! Our last chapter meeting was very special for us. Led by our fearless Advisory Team Chairman, Debbie Evans, M, we all sang “Flashlight” from Pitch Perfect to symbolize how DG is our flashlight during our college years and beyond. Thank you to Debbie for being our chapter’s flashlight for the past 2 years. And, we also thank our advisers from your alumnae chapter: Caryll Schultz, M; Kathy Darnell, M; Kelly Miller, M, and Debbie Link, M. We are grateful for all you’ve done to make us better!
It was sad to say goodbye to our seniors, but we wish them the best, and hope they continue to “Do Good” throughout the world. While it’s hard to believe, recruitment will be here before we know it! Work week begins August 5, followed by Recruitment Week, which starts on August 13, and ends with Bid day on August 19. We’re excited about this year’s theme for our chapter…Las Vegas! We encourage you to write sponsor forms on any potential new members you know. Please send the form, resume, and a photo to mudgsponsorship@gmail.com, by July 31st if possible. While we await recruitment, and the pledging of another outstanding new member class, DGs are enjoying their summer. Whether it’s travel, internships, work, or summer classes, our women stay busy, but still make time to get together with their sisters. We hope you are enjoying your summer as well, and we thank you for your continued support throughout the school year!
