Dear DG Sisters,
DGs are headed to the Northland October 9th and we get the chance to check out one of the most popular new venues in KC. So many people are talking about Chicken n Pickle and I can't wait for us to try it!
Our programming team has arranged for an instructor to give us the basics and two courts are reserved so we can give it a try. Not feeling particularly athletic? Socialize with your sisters and enjoy playing games in the Fireside Room. Coming straight from work? Plan to enjoy dinner at Chicken n Pickle. Also important - you can indicate if you want to carpool when you RSVP.
We enjoyed a great evening in September with many new sisters in attendance and left feeling refreshed after Bill Douglas's Tai Chi presentation. Sorry there aren't any pictures because a room of quiet Delta Gamma is something to see, but it felt wrong to whip out a camera during a guided meditation! Regardless what you find as you read this newsletter, I hope you make time to give yourself the gift of fun times with sisters learning new things and doing good things. presentation.

Introducing our Blind Wine and Beer Chair for NOKAN 2018
Help us give a hearty KC DG welcome to Sonja Garrelts, our new Blind Wine and Beer Chair for Night of Knowledge and Nonsense!
Sonja is new to the KC area, she and her family moved here from Virginia in May 2017. A 1997 graduate of Whitman College, (Walla Walla WA), Sonja is looking forward to meeting new sisters and getting involved with our alumnae chapter.
Sonja is a patent litigation lawyer, who is in a temporary assignment while looking for a permanent position. Her husband, Andrew, is a business manager for B.E.M.A., a non-profit organization. They have 2 girls, a 4 year old and a 20 month old. Their family just moved to Overland Park.
Please introduce your self to Sonja and join me in thanking her for being in charge of our Blind Wine and Beer table for NOKAN 2018.
If you have a wine or beer donation or want to help at the table in April, contact Sonja at sonja.garrelts@yahoo.com or just bring your donation to our next meeting that you attend. Not sure what we mean by Blind Wine and Beer Table? At our fundraiser, we sell bottles of red and white wines which are wrapped in a decorative hand-made resusable fabric bag. Hence the name "blind wine"--we tell you whether it's a red or a white--but the rest is a surprise! You can drink the bottle at the event or take it home for a special occasion. In addition to these wines, we will also sell a variety of chilled beers. Last year we made about $1100 in sales at our table! Beginning in January, watch our FB page for a "sneak peek" of bottles for purchase.
Friday, April 6, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Abdallah Shrine Temple - 5300 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas
Please watch future newsletters for more ways that you can help. If you have questions or want to know other ways that you can get involved, please contact Cathy Lemon at cathylemon520@gmail.com or (816) 560-9025.

The first month of the semester was off to a great start. Following recruitment, we were able to welcome 17 new members to our fall New Member class, now a total of 80 girls. These young women were very excited to join our chapter, and to start getting involved with Homecoming. We had 21 new members try out for Homecoming dance, which was insane, as usually it is around 5 girls. We are paired with Phi Gamma Delta for this year’s Homecoming, and the theme is Rhythm of the Roar. Other September events included the Big/Little reveal. The Bigs hid throughout the house, and left clues for the Littles to find them. Dad’s Weekend was also a success, and in addition to the football game, we went to My House downtown, where Fathers were able to meet our friends, and other Dad’s. To cap off the month, we had our “Marriage” social for homecoming with the Phi Gamma Deltas. The theme of the party was denim, very 90s. Congratulations to four amazing Delta Gammas, who were awarded with the Delta Gamma Foundation Scholarship! These ladies are Annie Bergquist, Annie Miller, Claire Giefer, and Laura Bierman. To keep up our academic success, the women of Delta Gamma points, based on their GPA. Points can also be earned by visiting teachers during office hours, receiving an A on a test, and completing study hours. We are still so thrilled with our extraordinary new chapter house, and sometimes have to pinch ourselves to remind us that it is truly ours! We love everything about it…from the chapter room for 300, dining room for 180, a one-of-a-kind staircase, and plenty of space for hanging out with our sisters! We look forward to the Sunday after Homecoming, and hope to meet many of you at the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, on October 22 at 10 am. Thank you Kansas City alumnae for your constant support. It means so much to all of us! In the bonds, Hannah Harper, Mu Chapter director: alumnae relations.

Beta Kappa Chapter Report NEWS FROM BETA KAPPA- UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS We hosted our semi-formal on Saturday, September 16th. Our social chair Taylor Rhodes did an amazing job organizing the event at the Lawrence Country Club. Our members enjoyed the buffet style lunch, music and beautiful outdoor view of the golf course. Our chapter participated in Fiji Islander, Phi Gamma Delta’s philanthropy, from September 10th through the 16th. The week-long event included a banner competition, blood drive, sand volleyball tournament, pageant, and dance competition. The women of Beta Kappa worked extremely hard all week and were the 2017 Fiji Islander winners! We were awarded a generous donation to Service for Sight. We loved participating and were happy to have benefited our philanthropy along the way. We enjoyed spending time with family and friends during family weekend on September 8th. Our members enjoyed brunch at the Delta Gamma chapter house and then cheered on our Jayhawks at Memorial Stadium.
Our new members had a busy last week of September. The big little reveal was an exciting time for all member classes. The sophomore member class was so happy to add to their growing families and celebrated at the chapter house. The new members concluded the month of September’s festivities with a retreat to the bowling alley where they enjoyed getting to know each other and making memories! October will be a busy month for our chapter. Initiation will be held on October 22nd at 9 am. We encourage alumni to attend and they are welcome to RVSP to Veronica Pattison at bkdgrituals@gmail.com. Anchor splash week begins on October 23rd and the swim competition will conclude the week on October 29th. We look forward to raising money for Service for Sight and getting to engage with other members of the Greek community! Alumni can RVSP to Sarah Smoot at bkdgfundraising@gmail.com.
Event
A “Spectacle”ular event! What a great way to end “Do Good” week…by celebrating the 65th Anniversary of CCVI’s founding. Over 325 guests enjoyed street food and drinks from local restaurants, as well as the concert by the talented band Darlingside. Proceeds from Spectacle will benefit the children of CCVI. Thank you to those alumnae who attended or volunteered! Spectacle was held in the Sensory Garden at CCVI, and if you haven’t visited the garden already, I encourage you to drop by. And while you’re there, a staff member would be happy to give you a tour of the school. I guarantee that when you do go, you’ll be blown away by the services provided for our precious children at CCVI.
Scroll down to check out the cool photos from the event.
