Time and Place: February 5th, 2 – 4:00 PM at Harmon Park, 1100 NW Harmon Blvd., Bend, OR (or park at Drake Park and walk over the footbridge).
The focus of this session will be water bird identification and using field optics. The Deschutes River in winter has many beautiful water birds, unlike summer when there are just Mallards and Canada geese. We may see Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Wigeon, Common Merganser, Ring-nedked Duck and if we are lucky, maybe a Hooded Merganser or even a Wood Duck, and of course Mallards and Canada geese.
What to Expect? We will be walking 1 – 2 miles on level ground, probably snow and ice covered. Dress warm with gloves and hat, hand-warmers are helpful; ice-buds on boots are helpful. Bring binoculars and a scope with tripod if you have one. Loaner binoculars will be available.
Who should sign up? All ages are welcome; there is a limit of 20. Please leave your dog at home.
