Principal's Message:

Dear Soleado Parent/Guardian,

We are in the fifth week of school and our place in the sun is beginning to settle down into the calm hum of regular routines and procedures.

As a school, we continue to seek new ways to support and challenge our students and this year is no exception.  As you may already know, we offered a program called RtI (Response to Intervention) in our second to fifth grades last year.  This program is now being provided Kindergarten through fifth grade.  It provides an hour and a half of intensive reading support to those students who demonstrated a need in this area.  The goal is that K-5 children will be able to demonstrate grade level proficiency in reading comprehension.  In addition, we have a certificated teacher working with our English Language Learners.  The support that she will provide can allow our ELL students to make great increases in their English language skills and their growth as students overall.

Besides the great intervention programs starting, we also have ELL Homework Club, Chorus, and Ensemble beginning next week!

As we strive to challenge our students to achieve their best, it is important that we take time to have fun and enjoy the bonds of community and friendship.  To that end, our Booster Club will again be hosting the third annual Halloween Haunt on October 20th.  There will be trick-or-treating in the classrooms for the kids and loads of fun for the whole family.  In addition, we will have our Red Brick Pizza night of the year on Tuesday, October 8th from 5-8 p.m.  Come by and grab a pizza, enjoy
our friends and family, and donate a few dollars to our school!  Also mark your calendars for our annual Book Fair starting the week of the 30th! This is another way to contribute dollars to our school and give the gift of reading enjoyment to your children.

There is no doubt in my mind that Soleado is one of the best kept secrets on the hill.  I look forward to the opportunity of getting to know your children better throughout this year and during all of the years that they are at our school.  I look forward to seeing great growth and achievement for all of our students in the coming year.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Stutzel

Reflections Program 2013-2014
"Believe, Dream, Inspire"

Reflections Program – Introduction

The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program.
The excitement and enthusiasm that the program generates for students, parents, schools and communities is unmatched with the majority of California PTAs participating in the program at all PTA levels.
That's why the Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:
  • Unleash their creative talents and be inspired
  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
  • Experience the joy and fun of making art
  • Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art
As an added bonus, in showcasing and celebrating student talent, the Reflections Program increases community awareness of the importance of the arts in education.
We are preparing for the program at our school and will be sending out more information with dates and events. Please review the information below to learn more until then.
