“Chautauqua Celebrates Flight”
Demonstrations & Exhibits in the Park

Stamps of Space and Flight
Ray Cartier brings his extraordinary, award-winning exhibit of flight-related stamps and covers from around the world. His exhibit includes covers flown by Lindbergh, Wiley Post, Chuck Yeager, and on Apollo 15, as well as over 120 pages of covers for the NASA missions from Mercury through Apollo 17. He will also be selling specially imprinted envelopes he designed specifically for the 2015 Waxahachie Chautauqua. Karen Cartier will sell Tales by Mail, her book of folktales from around the  world which have been illustrated by stamps from their native country.   
 
US Post Office posts your letters from Chautauqua!
Yes, for the first time since the Waxahachie Chautauqua in the early 1900s, you will be able to post a letter from Getzendaner Park! It will have a special flight-related Chautauqua cancellation and will be available for 9/26/2015 only. Bring your cards & letters to mail – to your loved one or to yourself.   
 
Texas Honeybee Guild
Bee-Wranglers Susan & Brandon Pollard from Dallas are founders of the Texas Honeybee Guild which  is dedicated to building awareness of bees and how they play a part in the world. The Pollards will bring their beehives and their passion & enthusiasm for bees.  They are also bringing their own signature honey to sell.

Ginger Cole and Jim Goss
Longtime local beekeeper Ginger Cole teams up with local craftsman Jim Goss who brings to Chautauqua unique bee hive that he has made. Ginger will bring her bees as well as the tools, supplies and information to be a successful honey bee farmer.


Cedar Creek Lofts Racing Pigeon Club
Did you know that racing homing pigeons is a popular world-wide sport with 48 Racing Pigeon Clubs just in Texas? Join LB Tiner and several of his pigeons from East Texas to learn all about breeding and racing pigeons!


Steven Moss, author
Co-Author Steven Moss will be selling and signing his book, “We Could Not Fail: The First African Americans in the Space Program”. The authors profile ten pioneer African American space workers and tell an inspiring, largely unknown story of how the space program served as a launching pad for a more integrated America.
 
Flying Musicians Association, Inc.
Music in the Exhibit Tent will be provided by the Flying Musicians, pilots who also play music!  They will bring their instruments, their sounds, their stories, and their passion for blending music and aviation. They’ll perform at 1 pm in the Auditorium and then continue to entertain in the Exhibit Tent.  
 
Aeronauts in the Civil War
Members of the Southern History Clubs of Ellis County will tell the story of the development and use of reconnaissance/observation balloons for military purposes during the U.S. Civil War (1861-1863) by both Union and Confederate armies' aeronautic corps.


National Space Society – North Texas Chapter
Learn about this high-energy, award-winning chapter of NSS whose vision includes people living in communities beyond the Earth.  Share their enthusiasm about the frontiers of space and learn about their activities such as Moon Day and Asteroid Day.

 
North Texas Drone Users Group
This group of amateurs and professionals drone users will answer questions about the uses and limitations of these unmanned aerial vehicles for civilian, recreational, agricultural, search and rescue as well as hobby purposes.
 
Texas State Technical College Aviation Programs
TSTC brings their Air Traffic Control Simulator to Chautauqua!  Ever wonder what an air-traffic controller does? Here is your chance. TSTC Air Traffic Control Department Chair Dar Klontz will bring a simulator so that you can see the important role these folks play in keeping us safe when we fly.
 
WISD Interact Club Presents Activities for Children
Flight-related activities and projects for children will be provided by members of the Interact Club of Waxahachie High School.

Evelyn Bias and Everett Bias
These enthusiastic young people are back again to present the history of the Waxahachie Chautauqua through photos, articles and stories.
