Chautauqua Will Bring Bessie Coleman Programs to WISD
On Friday September 25, the Chautauqua Preservation Society will bring 2 programs on Bessie Coleman to Waxahachie 4th and 5th graders. Waxahachie native Bessie Coleman is an American hero who overcame poverty and racism to become a world-renowned aerobatic pilot, skydiver, and air-show performer.
Bessie Coleman will be portrayed by Joanna Maddox, a professional actress, singer and storyteller from Atlanta, GA. Ms. Maddox's mission is to present the lives of those who lived before us, who despite the obstacles they faced, continued to pursue their dreams.

Air National Guard Band of the Southwest added to Chautauqua line-up.
The 35-member ANG Band will present a patriotic lunchtime concert in the magnificent acoustics of the Chautauqua Auditorium, just as such concerts were heard in 1902. The band is historically known as the 531st Air Force Band and has over a forty year history of sustaining the traditions and heritage that has become the hallmark of military bands. This thirty-six member unit maintains a high degree of musical performance flexibility in order to accommodate a wide variety of tasks in support of official military functions and community relations programs.
